Developed for the lucrative American market, the Maserati Sebring was launched in 1962 and appropriately named in honour of the works team’s victory in the famous Floridian 12-hour race some five years earlier, courtesy of the mighty 450S of noted drivers Juan Manuel Fangio and Jean Behra. Although constructed on the platform of the Giulio Alfieri-designed 3500GT, and powered by the same 350S-derived, fuel-injected, inline, six-cylinder engine, the new model had a noticeably more contemporary look than its predecessor, courtesy of its attractive new coachwork by Vignale. In 1965, the evolutionary Series II variant was introduced, which featured a host of cosmetic changes, including revised headlights and taillights, modified bumpers and side vents, as well as optional 3.7-litre and 4.0-litre engines.

This example, a Sebring 3700 GTi Series II, was ordered on 31 March 1966 and equipped with the 3.7-litre engine. It left the factory finished in Grigio Albany with a tan leather interior. The car arrived at Martinelli & Sonvico, a Swiss Maserati dealer, on 4 May 1966 and was sold to its first owner, Mr. Siegfrid Sigrist.

Unfortunately, little is known about the Swiss history of this Maserati, other than that the car remained there until 2005. This Sebring 3700 GTi was imported into Germany and registered on 27 September 2005; it remained with the owner until 2012. Whilst in his care, he obtained a Deuvet Vehicle Passport and FIVA Identity Card for this Maserati. It is believed to have participated in the 2009 and 2010 Eifel Rallye Festivals. In 2006, the engine, transmission, and front suspension were rebuilt. Photographs of the work accompany the vehicle.

The second German owner registered this Sebring 3700 GTi on 12 March 2012. Invoices from Maserati specialist Auto Schiemenz totalling €16.081.90 indicate service and maintenance over the next five years. Notably, in 2017 this Sebring 3700 GTi received a major service and had the Lucas fuel-injection system overhauled at a cost of €9.552.03.

In January 2019, the car was subject to an inspection and valuation by GTÜ-Classic with a resulting 19-page report, which accompanies the sale. The current owner acquired this Maserati in April 2019.

Today, this Maserati Sebring 3700 GTi Series II remains finished in its factory-correct Grigio Albany paintwork and the interior is upholstered in tan leather. A Deuvet Vehicle Passport, FIVA Identity Card, GTÜ-Classic report, Maserati Classiche Historical Information Certificate, and servicing invoices are included.
