Widely recognized as the ‘golden age’ of Corvettes, the original Sting Ray was manufactured from 1963 to 1967 and has since gone on to become a highly collectible modern classic that is enjoyable to drive and timeless in design.

According to official NCRS documentation, this stunning example of the potent big-block, mid-year Corvette was completed at GM’s St. Louis-based Corvette plant on 16 March 1967, and delivered new to Van Chevrolet in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. It was sold to its first registered owner, Mr. Robert Malkames III in July of that year. This Corvette was finished elegantly from the factory in Tuxedo Black—one of only 815 1967 Corvettes painted black of the 22,940 produced—with red “Stinger” hood stripe over a Black interior, the same livery as it appears in today. Adding to the excitement of this big-block Corvette is its list of optional equipment that includes a L-36 427 cu. in. 390-hp Turbo-Jet V-8 engine, Posi-traction differential, M21 four-speed close-ratio manual transmission, side-exit exhaust, AM/FM radio, leather seats, bolt-on wheels, power steering and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Additionally, the car was equipped with factory air-conditioning, a rare and highly desirable option, especially on a convertible.

The recipient of a comprehensive restoration done to a very high standard, this superb big-block Corvette is powered by a period-correct block (dated 3904351) which has been restamped to match the original number. Over $100,000 was spent on the restoration of this 427 Corvette, and it is accompanied with a binder of restoration receipts detailing the work performed. The result is a detailed, OEM-oriented restoration that presents beautifully throughout and is a thrill to drive. With all its power and convenience options, this final year of the “mid-year” Corvette is ideally suited for touring and vintage rallies.
