  • A lovely example of BMW’s lovable microcar
  • Powered by the later, more powerful 298-cc engine and a four-speed motorcycle gearbox
  • Charming blue and white exterior with a gray solf-folding sunroof
  • Well-preserved older restoration; extensively serviced in April 2025

Developed and manufactured by the Italian company Iso Autoveicoli SpA, the Isetta made its debut in November 1953 in Turin. Though its cute appearance and frugal fuel economy generated significant interest, this did not translate to sales. Iso sold the license to BMW in 1954, which benefited both companies and, some say, helped save the troubled German automaker in the wake of World War II.

BMW completely redesigned the Isetta but retained the charming Italian styling while installing the 247-cubic-centimeter single-cylinder engine from its R25/3 motorcycle. The BMW Isetta, as it became known, first appeared in April 1955, with production running until May 1962. In 1956, the engine was enlarged to 298 cubic centimeters following changes in German legislation. Under BMW’s stewardship, the Isetta became the best-selling single-cylinder car of all time.

The 1957 BMW Isetta 300 on offer was the recipient of a comprehensive restoration that was completed in 2004. A collection of invoices on file from the period details the thousands of dollars spent in an effort to return the vehicle to superb condition. Now 20 years later, the Isetta still shows wonderfully, finished in a period-correct two-tone blue and white exterior with a gray soft-folding sunroof. In 2025, a thorough service totaling just over $5,200 was performed, with the work focusing on the brake system, ignition components, and lubricants.

Easily one of the most charming automobiles to ever roll off an assembly line, the Isetta 300 delights the public wherever it is seen. The well-maintained example on offer is no exception and will make a great addition to any collection.
