Billed as the fastest model in the contemporary Porsche range, the 356 C Carrera 2 was propelled by an air-cooled 1,966-cc four-cam flat-four engine. Rated to deliver circa 132 PS, it stood as the most powerful motor that the marque had put into series production at that time. Combined with its scarcity, since only 126 C-series Coupés were built for the 1964 model year, the Carrera 2 remains among the most coveted of all types of 356.

According to an accompanying copy of the original Kardex warranty card, this car was configured with Signal Red paintwork over a Black leather interior. Special equipment listed includes a more thickly padded driver’s seat, chrome-plated wheels, and two speakers.

Delivered new on 15 May 1964 via Autohaus Hahn in Stuttgart, the 356 C was first owned by Mr Kurt Rüttger in Sonnenberg. The Kardex further records that, come a February 1965 inspection, the odometer was noted as showing 15,100 kilometres. Meanwhile, later ownership beckoned with a Mr Vladimir Majic of Essen.

The Porsche was registered to Ms Angelika Warmböck in Munich from July 1973, prior to this car moving to the United States. In October 1988, it was purchased by Ted Waibel of T A W Auto Imports of Broomfield, Colorado. Reported to have undergone a restoration and refinished in its factory colour of Signal Red, the 356 was subsequently acquired by the vendor in Germany in August 1994. They had the car shipped back to its home country the following month, while the seats were refurbished by Klassische Automobile of Balingen under the supervision of Ande Votteler in October 2001.

The famous Carrera Book by Rolf Sprenger and Steve Heinrichs notes that the car received a replacement engine at Porsche. On inspection, the number stamp for the replacement engine is 97430—this falls within the build sequence for a type 587/1 motor, the correct type for the 356 C Carrera 2. However, the type number stamped on the right half of the fitted engine was noted to be 587/2, which was fitted by the factory to the 356 B Carrera 2 GT. It is, therefore, likely that the crankcase is assembled from two different engines.
