290 hp, 302 cu. in. V-8 engine, four-speed manual transmission, heavy-duty front springs and performance shocks with rear leaf springs, staggered shock absorbers, and a rear stabilizer bar, and power front disc and rear drum brakes. Wheelbase: 108 in.

Ford’s performance machine, the Boss 302, was a direct competitor to Chevrolet’s Camaro Z/28, as it offered more performance on a reduced-weight chassis. It proved its worth on the track in the SCCA’s Trans-Am racing series, and it was quite popular in the showroom, as it offered customers a vehicle that was just as comfortable on the road as it was on the track. In a comparison test in their February 1970 issue, Car & Driver further praised the Boss’ street manners, stating that “it is quiet and exudes quality, very much like an expensive European GT car. The stiff suspension and high shock absorber control give it a very purposeful feel, and because the body doesn't quiver or rattle when you hit a bump, the overall impression is most satisfying.”

According to both its trim tag and a Marti Report on file, this example was constructed in June 1970 and finished in the iconic color of Grabber Blue, with black vinyl bucket seats. It was further outfitted with a 3.50 ratio rear axle, a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission, a rear deck spoiler, 15-inch belted tires with raised white lettering, and sports slats.

The car was residing in Tacoma, Washington, when it received a full restoration, which lasted nearly five years, by a West Coast-based Mustang specialist. Following its completion, it was shown at several events and received awards at both Mustang Club of America and SAAC meets, including a Judges’ Choice award at the 2004 SAAC Indiana Spring Fling Meet. This beautifully maintained car has been in the collection of Mr. Pack for the past 10 years, after being purchased from an individual residing in Ohio, and it shows very well indeed.

Furthermore, Mr. Pack has generously agreed to donate the proceeds of the sale of this Boss 302 to the Holy Angels Residential Facility in Shreveport, Louisiana. This organization, which is close to the hearts of both Mr. and Mrs. Pack, is an independently licensed residential training facility for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It offers around-the-clock care for residents, ranging from infants to aging adults, and it seeks to provide peace of mind for residents and their families by providing a caring and home-like environment where residents can experience the dignity of living as independently as possible. It is RM Auctions’ pleasure to help support this wonderful organization through the sale of Mr. Pack’s 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 and a portion of the proceeds from admission to the sale of the collection.
