A name well known to fans of American performance, the Hurst Olds of 1972 is special even within a group of unique cars. For 1972, the car makers were reluctant to provide pace cars for the Indy 500 after an incident the previous year. For this reason, Hurst Corporation sponsored the pace car, making 1972 the only year in the history of this great race in which an aftermarket manufacturer and not a car maker provided the pace car. Oldsmobile supplied the cars to Hurst and everything else was left to them. For this reason, the 1972 Hurst Olds are among the lowest production models of these special cars.
