The 1965 Chevrolet Impala Sport Sedan “hardtop” offered here was built at the St. Louis assembly plant, in Ermine White over a black vinyl interior with the 327-cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V-8, Powerglide transmission, power brakes, AM radio, and factory air conditioning. It appears to have been discovered in Stanford, Kentucky, in 2012 and was briefly added to the collection of Glenn Boyd of Wake Forest, North Carolina, an enthusiast who, like his fellow Tar Heel Michael Leith, was known for his prolific acquisition and preservation of very original cars. In fact, over the years many Boyd cars found their way into The Michael Leith Collection, and vice versa.

Mr. Boyd subsequently sold the car to yet another well-known figure, the late Steve Ames of Marlborough, New Hampshire, the noted Pontiac parts guru, who was at the time building an especially impressive collection of extremely low-mileage cars, focusing in particular on General Motors lines. Kept for years in Mr. Ames’ collection, the Impala was eventually acquired by Mr. Leith and has since been upkept to the same high standard as that of its previous owners. The car remains almost totally original and amazingly well-preserved, with the only work required in present ownership being fitment of new wheel cylinders, brake hoses, battery, and battery cable. At the time of cataloguing, it had recorded 5,500 actual miles, a statement amply borne out by its condition inside, outside, and underneath, with factory finishes and trim wherever one looks, as well as by the title on file.

A wonderful choice for the Antique Automobile Club of America’s increasingly popular Original Car class, this would also surely be a head-turner at any number of Chevrolet club shows and events all over the country, with enthusiasts ready to pore over its preserved details. It is an amazing piece of history.
