If you ask any car enthusiast what their favorite car story is, many would likely respond that the Ford vs. Ferrari battle of the early 1960s would be the most riveting. Born of Henry Ford II’s desire to beat Enzo at his own game after Ferrari reneged on selling his fabled company to Ford, the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans saw Ford’s dream realized, with the GT40 racing to an iconic 1-2-3 finish. It was a story rife with adversity, failure, and success, one so captivating that even Hollywood had to cash in on the saga.

As the fiftieth anniversary of that momentous victory approached, Ford developed in secret a new Ford GT that would see the company return to Le Mans, with their sights firmly set on victory in the LM GTE-Pro class to mark that fiftieth anniversary. The new Ford GT was a complete shock to the automotive world when announced at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and even a shock to many within Ford itself!

With the model designed first and foremost as a race car, Ford was particularly selective about who would be lucky enough to have a road-going Ford GT of their own, and each prospective owner needed to apply for the privilege of purchasing their own Ford GT. Only once approved by Ford would they be able to continue with the ordering process. Production was limited to 1,350 examples, with the vast majority finding homes in the US.

Built for the 2018 model year, this Ford GT is finished in Liquid Grey tri-coat paintwork with Shadow Black stripes and has only been driven 7.1 miles from new at the time of cataloguing. Including its paintwork and stripes, the car boasts some $91,700 in optional extras, including the Dark Energy interior upgrade package, carbon fiber wheels, six-point harness anchors, the exterior carbon fiber package in gloss finish, leather wrapped steering wheel, red brake calipers, titanium lug nuts, titanium exhaust, locking wheel nuts, and a Ford GT indoor car cover in black.

Designed and built without compromise and success at the top levels of motorsport in mind, primarily at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Ford GT showcased Ford’s desire to continue winning races on Sunday and selling cars on Monday. Their success on track proved that Ford will always be a force to be reckoned with and these ‘third generation’ GTs stand proudly alongside their predecessors. Virtually as-new throughout and offered from the collection of its second owner, this example wants for nothing.
