The pony car wars of the mid-1960s ignited thrilling on-track battles in the Trans-Am series, prompting American automakers to release high-performance road-legal versions of their racing machines. Chevrolet's standout was the legendary Camaro Z28, which delivered an ideal blend of performance, handling, and striking style. Powered by a high-output 302-cubic-inch small-block V-8 with 11:1 compression, solid lifters, forged pistons, and a steel crankshaft, it featured a Holley carburetor on a dual-plane intake manifold. Other features of the Z28 option package included dual exhaust with deep-toned muffler, special front and rear suspension, heavy-duty radiator and temperature-control fan, quick-ratio steering, 3.73:1 ratio rear axle, and Rally stripes on the hood and rear deck. Additionally, a four-speed manual transmission and power disc brakes were mandatory options on all Z28s, while a Positraction rear axle was recommended.

The superb 1969 Camaro Z28 offered here was produced on 18 June 1969 and is finished in factory-correct Garnet Red (Code 52) over Red interior trim, a highly attractive and sought-after color combination. It was sold new via Gerken Chevrolet in West Chester, Pennsylvania on 30 July 1969. Now sporting a comprehensive restoration to concours standards, the car has been confirmed by marque expert Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance to have been optioned from the factory with the Z28 package and to retain its numbers-matching 302-cubic-inch V-8 engine and 12-bolt Positraction rear axle with 3.73 gearing. It is further equipped with a period-correct Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed manual transmission and power brakes with front discs.

In addition to its Rally Sport (RS) trim package, other coveted equipment includes a cowl-induction hood, front and rear spoilers, black Rally stripes, a wood-grain steering wheel, center console with special instruments, tachometer, and power steering. Following its restoration under previous ownership, this superb Z28 was awarded the 2010 Antique Automobile Club of America’s Senior Grand National prize.

Having joined Ron and Sarah Jury’s esteemed collection in 2018, the Camaro presents beautifully with the previous high-quality restoration very well-preserved. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Jerry MacNeish in 2024.
