While the Corvette's early years were not without challenges, it began to truly flourish in 1956 and 1957, thanks in large part to the visionary contributions of noted engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov. By 1957, he had transformed the Corvette into a formidable high-performance sports car. That year’s model bore only minor refinements compared to the 1956 model, yet it introduced an impressive array of features, including vibrant colors, enhanced power accessories, and most notably, high-horsepower fuel-injected engines.

The Polo White "Fuelie" offered here is an early VE-code 1957 model, equipped from the factory with Chevrolet’s revered fuel-injected 283-cubic-inch V-8 engine rated at 250 horsepower. While little is known of the car’s early life, it was reportedly purchased out of a Scranton, Pennsylvania private automotive museum by a fellow Keystone state-based enthusiast who would go on to cherish the car for the next 28 years. Said to have been enjoyed exclusively during summer months, the car has clearly been lovingly maintained, as evidenced by decades of invoices, including over $20,000 worth of service in 2017 by County Corvette of West Chester, Pennsylvania. Their extensive work included a complete rebuild of the car’s Rochester fuel injection unit.

Enhancing the Corvette’s Polo White exterior is striking red upholstery complemented by a black convertible soft-top and matching Polo White factory hardtop. Inside, it features a Wonder Bar push-button radio, red coco floor mats, a dash-mounted mirror, and authentically patterned upholstery, all contributing to its classic charm. Notably, it is equipped with the desirable four-speed manual transmission.

Acquired by the consignor in 2021, the Corvette’s regimen of careful upkeep has persisted, with attention given in 2024 to the right door and front bumper bars, setting each to their proper alignment, as well as refurbishing and repairing the front seats and other ancillary items.

Unlike many first-generation Corvettes that are either modified or kept as “garage queens,” this lovingly maintained example is ready for further enjoyment, presenting a wonderful opportunity to own a rare and desirable version of the quintessential American sports car.
