Classic Pininfarina styling combine with Ferrari-developed V-8 performance with the 308 GTS, a revered model from Maranello that is considered by enthusiasts to offer driving thrills as exhilarating as its visual appeal. Mounted behind the driver and passenger is a transverse mid-engine, 2.9-litre V-8, here fed by the twin-choke Weber carburettors that distinguish this from later fuel-injected examples of the 308. The 308 GTS—or Gran Turismo Spider—was introduced two years into the lifecycle of the model, in 1977, offering an open-top driving experience thanks to the removable “targa”-style vinyl roof.
Finished in a seldom-seen colour combination of Bianco Polo over Blu, this example has been in the ownership of Monsieur Petitjean since 1983, having acquired it from a dressmaker in the south of France. Included in the Ferrari’s history files is an evaluation by the marque expert, Guillaume Cognet, who reports that this 308 GTS was once registered to the Palace of Monaco, where it wore the registration “M001 MC” and sported colours similar to the classic “Monaco Blue”. This car will need recommissioning, having been stood on static display for a number of years, but its unique configuration with the low front spoiler and optional 16-inch wheels will surely appeal to Ferrari enthusiasts.
