Among the many names Ferrari has bestowed upon its road cars, few carry the weight and reverence of “Gran Turismo Omologato.” Prior to 2010, only two models bore the iconic GTO badge: The legendary 250 GTO of 1962 and the groundbreaking 288 GTO of 1984. Both were created to satisfy rigorous homologation standards and have since become some of the most prized and collectable Ferraris ever built. The GTO designation was reserved solely for the brand’s most uncompromising, performance-focused creations, machines blending racing pedigree with roadgoing capability. In April of 2010, the 599 GTO resurrected the closely guarded nameplate.
Though the 599 GTO was not built for homologation purposes, it drew heavily from the track-only 599XX, translating Formula One-inspired engineering into a road-legal package. Advanced aerodynamic and cooling upgrades, such as reworked diffusers and a newly sculpted rear spoiler, were implemented to improve downforce and high-speed stability. The chassis benefited from Ferrari’s sophisticated F1-Trac traction control system, which helped minimize understeer and sharpen cornering agility.
At its heart was a ferocious, naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12, unleashing 670 horsepower at a soaring 8,250 rpm. This was mated to a highly refined six-speed automated manual transaxle capable of gear changes in just 60 milliseconds, an impressive 40 milliseconds quicker than the standard 599 GTB. This combination rocketed the GTO from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds, making it Ferrari’s fastest road car at the time.
Declared the most extreme sports car in the company’s lineup, the 599 GTO lapped Ferrari’s Fiorano test circuit a full second quicker than the vaunted Enzo. With a mere 125 units designated for the US market, opportunities to acquire one remain exceedingly rare.
Displaying a sensational 110 miles at cataloguing, this US-market Ferrari 599 GTO was delivered new to the Ming Collection finished in classic Rosso Corsa with a contrasting Grigio Silverstone Opaco roof over a Nero Alcantara interior. Recaro sport seats trimmed in red Alcantara with black inserts feature Cavallino-embroidered headrests and red seatbelts, while red stitching accents the Alcantara found throughout the cabin, including the dashboard, headliner, sun visors, and rear parcel shelf. The carbon fiber steering wheel is similarly finished in dual-tone red and black Alcantara.
Resplendent in the launch color scheme of the 599 GTO, this example wears over $70,000 in optional extras, including red brake calipers, yellow tachometer, navigation system with HomeLink, passenger footwell-mounted fire extinguisher, parking sensors, spare wheel kit, and a premium Bose audio system. Extensive carbon fiber adorns numerous components, such as the front and rear valances, boot compartment, engine cover, door sills, lateral dash insert, wheel cups, and transmission tunnel, among other special features.
Since its delivery to the Ming Collection, a climate-controlled sanctuary in California, this 599 GTO has never left the facility and has remained entirely secluded from public roads, preserved in true “time capsule” condition. Maintenance has been carried out without compromise in the collection’s dedicated workshop, with factory-certified Ferrari technicians dispatched to the site, equipped with proprietary tools and diagnostics to ensure the highest standard of care. It is offered with a window sticker, service records, and numerous accessories still in their factory packaging including Schedoni luggage, custom Keith Collins floor mats, leather-pouched jack, tool kit, battery tender, and owner’s manuals.
A true modern-day collectible, the 599 GTO combines striking design, exhilarating performance, and limited production, making a well-preserved example essential to any discerning tifoso. Benefitting from exceptionally low mileage and finished in the model’s debut color scheme, this US-spec example would be an excellent addition to any collection of special-series modern Ferraris.
