Brumos: An American Racing Icon by Sean Cridland exhaustively documents the origins and many triumphs of Brumos, from the early days of founder Hubert Brundage to its many victories in some of the world’s most challenging endurance races. A limited, numbered Collector’s Edition expands the work further, adding a supplemental fourth volume for a total of over 1,600 pages and 2,900 images.
Even more special are the Ultimate Artist’s Editions, based on the expanded Collector’s Edition books but featuring unique works by American modern and automotive artists on their protective slipcases. Numbered 001–010 (plus two additional Author’s Proof editions), each example is both an enjoyable and expansive reference tome, and a unique work of art.
This example, 007, features a slipcase designed by Kate Cook, artist and owner of Asphalt Canvas Custom Art. Cook is known for her unique “ärtəˈmō-tiv® Method,” using inks and automotive enamels to paint canvas, metal, and even buildings. Her slipcase design depicts Brumos across the decades. The front slipcover design features the 2011 Grand-Am Championship Brumos Porsche crossing the finish line at Daytona, while the back depicts Ira Brundage’s Duesenberg-Miller, George Huntoon at the wheel, winning the 1950 Palm Beach Shores Grand Prix. The spine of the slipcover proudly displays the various racing numbers the Brundage and Brumos Porsche team cars donned over the years.
Bill and Jane Warner have graciously offered Brumos: An American Racing Icon by Sean Cridland, The Ultimate Artist’s Edition - 007: Kate Cook with all proceeds to benefit Spina Bifida of Jacksonville. The Warners, great friends of RM Sotheby’s, founded the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in 1995, with the first show taking place in 1996. What began as a heartfelt effort to support local charities quickly grew into a globally recognized, must-attend concours event, and a highlight of the auction calendar. From the earliest years, RM Sotheby’s worked closely with the Warner team, and over nearly three decades the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance under the Warner’s leadership raised millions for local causes—most notably was their continued support of Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports families living with Spina Bifida.
This sale of this book represents a wonderful, unique opportunity help continue the good works of Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, all while celebrating the legacy of one of America’s great racing teams.
