At the forefront of aerodynamic design, Ferrari engineers use wind tunnels to test proposed new body styles. Some tests deploy flow visualisation techniques to provide diagnostic information about the way the air takes to the shape, with coloured oil flows applied at an upstream point to provide a visual illustration of a car body’s aerodynamic profile. The 40 per cent-scale model offered here is one of only eight Speedform “Oil Flow” examples that pay tribute to the rigorous testing techniques used to style the Ferrari 488 Pista. Made in 2023, the model’s internal structure is made from aluminium, which is then wrapped around a wooden frame and completed with carbon fibre parts and others made by rapid prototyping. The Grigio Corsa exterior is painted with oil flow trails fittingly applied in Rosso Corsa. Mounted on a dedicated plinth for display, the model is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Ferrari and a red dust cover for the car.
