Kindly note once sold this lot must return to Italy following the sale to be officially exported. The transportation and post-sale storage of the cars back to Milan (Quattroruote) will be at sellers expense. The cars will be stored at Quattroruote in Milan until this process is complete and the registrations have been cancelled. Buyers can then make arrangements to collect cars directly from Quattroruote once this process is complete. We estimate the process will take approximately 3-4 weeks.

The Quattroruote Collection catalogue speaks best of the 525 N Spider: “This is a Fiat, but it looks like a Rolls-Royce—even more beautiful and elegant”.

This model sports a 3.7-litre six-cylinder engine with two valves per cylinder, ensuring a top speed of roughly 100 km/h; certainly not the fastest automobile of its era, but still quick by the era’s standards. More importantly, it was smooth, spacious, and comfortable, with a generously sized steering wheel and a beautiful but simple dashboard.

The spider model was bodied by Carrozzerie Speciale Fiat, the “special bodies department” of the Fiat factory in the Lingotto district of Torino, and thus had a special “semi-custom” appeal similar to certain Packards and Lincolns built in the United States. This body’s lines were inspired by classic watercraft of the era, with a beautifully curved scuttle and a rounded windshield that can be folded flat for an especially sporting driving experience. The interior treatment is spectacular, with leather upholstery stitched in a lozenge pattern and moulded wood garnishes on the inner door panels.

The car offered here was added to the Quattroruote Collection in 1966 and has been maintained in very original condition within the Collection since. It is believed to have been repainted some years ago, but the interior appears to be original, with significant wear to the upholstery; similarly, the windshield glass is original, with notable delamination. The car is a solid, complete, and very authentic example, and it would be an ideal basis for a quality restoration effort, or for further conservation and driving enjoyment in its highly original state.

Noteworthy to North American bidders is this model’s acceptance as a CCCA Full Classic; no Fiats meeting this classification are presently listed as active with the CCCA, thus the acquisition of this model would allow its new owner exclusivity and bragging rights at various events. Even in Europe, the 525 N Spider is a rare sight, and this example would certainly be warmly received at a variety of shows, rallies, and concours d’elegance. It is beautiful and elegant—like a Rolls-Royce!
