Upon the 1996 introduction of its Pininfarina-designed 550 Maranello, Ferrari sensed customer demand for an open-top example, something which had been missing from Maranello’s line-up since the hallowed Daytona Spider. Though customers were thrilled with the resulting 550 Barchetta Pininfarina, many felt limited by the lack of a conventional convertible top and only used their cars for quick out-and-back jaunts in more forgiving weather. Ferrari, of course, responded in dramatic fashion and created a brand-new convertible top system which offered the freedom of the Barchetta with the practicality and security of the coupé.

Based on the upgraded 575M Maranello, the resulting Superamerica was immediately set apart by its Revocromico rotating hardtop, the first of its kind ever fitted to a production car. It was constructed using a carbon fibre frame integrated with electrochromic glass. When the top was closed, the opacity of the glass could be adjusted via a dial in the cabin, allowing the driver and passenger to experience the full brightness of a conventional sunroof at its lightest setting or just one per cent of available light at its darkest. Further, the Superamerica could be transformed into a convertible at the touch of a button, with the roof rotating back to rest flush with the rear deck in just 10 seconds.

This 2005 Ferrari Superamerica left Maranello finished in Rosso Corsa over Pelle Beige. Equipped with the F1-style six-speed paddle-shift transmission, this example rides on light alloy BBS wheels and is adorned with Scuderia shields on the wings. The Superamerica was distributed through the Swiss Ferrari importer in Nyon. On 12 October 2005 it was sold new through authorised Ferrari dealer Automobile Németh AG to its first private Swiss owner.

According to the car’s warranty book it returned to Automobile Németh AG for services in 2010, 2012, and 2014, with the 2012 service covering 10,000-kilometre recommended maintenance. In February 2018 the car received its Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming matching-numbers chassis, engine, gearbox, and body. It was subsequently serviced in 2020 and 2022 by Ferrari Für Basel Aargau und Solothurn Niki Hasler AG. More recently on 9 May 2025, a 30,000-kilometre recommended maintenance by official Ferrari dealer Kessel Auto Zug AG was completed. This Ferrari is accompanied by original owner’s manuals and warranty book with pouch, tool kit, and tyre kit.

One of just 559 produced, this example finished in a classic Ferrari colour combination and having covered 11,430 kilometres from new, carries on the legendary Superamerica name in fine fashion.
