Boldly introduced in 1966 as a new, one-of-a-kind car; Oldsmobile started from scratch on the engineering of this respected platform as it was designed as an entirely different type of car from the ground up. It was unlike any other car on the road when introduced – in looks, performance and engineering advancements. It still has a standalone style that makes it as recognizable now as it was nearly 50 years ago. It is a beautiful and historically significant car that was the first front-wheel drive automobile produced in the U.S.A. since the 1937 Cord, and won many awards, including the prestigious Motor Trend 1966 "Car of the Year".

All 1966 Oldsmobile Toronados came from the factory with a 425-cid, 385-hp Rocket V-8 engine with a specially tailored Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission for the front-wheel drive, flat floor platform delivering what was described as “Rocket Action”. The drivetrain has been rebuilt on this particular car. It is a driver-quality example finished in red with a red interior and features such equipment as air conditioning, radio, power steering and power brakes. Concealed headlights and “draft-fee ventilation” are also part of the standard package that accompanied this well-remembered vehicle.
