Winning an impressive 22 of 37 NASCAR Grand National Series races in 1953, Hudson had a banner year in racing. In 37 starts that season, driver Herb Thomas piloting his very own number 92 Hudson Hornet, achieved 11 pole position starts, 31 top ten finishes, and 23 podium finishes of which 12 were race wins. His impressive year earned him the championship, comfortably beating out Lee Petty by over 600 points. In doing so, Thomas became the first repeat champion in NASCAR history, both years behind the wheel of a Hudson Hornet.

The success on the racetrack bolstered demands for enthusiasts to put the very same “stock cars” in their driveways. Hudson offered the Hornet for 1953 in four distinct body styles: the Convertible Brougham, four-door Sedan, two-door Hollywood Hardtop, and what Hudson used as its NASCAR “stock car,” the two-door Club Coupe. The Hornet was powered by the 308-cubic-inch L-head inline six-cylinder engine, upgraded with the legendary Twin H-Power carburetor setup.

This 1953 Hudson Hornet Coupe is one such example, featuring the legendary inline-six with the Twin H-Power setup. The engine is backed by a three-speed column-shift manual transmission. Exterior features include fog lights, sun visor, dual sideview mirrors, color-matched fender skirts, bumper guards, backup lights, and wire wheels wrapped with whitewall tires and featuring factory hubcaps. The interior features plush seating and is equipped with a clock, radio, and dash-mounted traffic light viewer. A nicely presented example with factory power steering, this Hudson Hornet is believed to retain its numbers-matching engine.

Boasting its success on the NASCAR circuit, period Hudson advertising put it best: “The Hudson Hornet—America’s Stock-Car Champion is a crowd pleaser on any street.”
