One of Charles J. Noto’s most prized automobiles, the 1929 Cadillac Convertible Coupe offered here was, per its build sheet, originally built with this distinctive body style, and was delivered through the Brooklyn Cadillac dealership on Atlantic Avenue, whose tag still appears on the right rear fender. According to prior owner Frank Nicodemus, of the noted Cadillac parts and restoration facility FEN Enterprises in Wappingers Falls, New York, the car’s original owner kept it for decades, storing it in the parking garage of a high-rise apartment building in New York City. Mr. Nicodemus claimed to have acquired the car from the original owner in 1980, and in 1998 sold it to Mr. Noto, who, with John Barbato, spent two years undertaking its full restoration back to original condition.

Mr. Noto recounts that the car was totally original and intact when he acquired it and that each of its original components was carefully preserved during the restoration, including the combination cigar lighter/engine light in the dashboard, the Kellogg on-board air compressor with its original hose, and even the set of tools, and oil can. Listed on its build sheet as having been delivered with a folding trunk rack, it retains that feature, along with a trunk amply stocked with period picnic essentials, as well as side-mounted spares with covers and mirrors, wind wings, fender step plates, a radiator stone guard, and the “Herald” mascot.

Finished in a striking livery of pale gray and black with red wheels and black top, the car was a Primary award-winner at the 1998 Cadillac-LaSalle Club Grand National on Long Island and in 2004 was awarded a Senior First in Antique Automobile Club of America judging. More recently, it has been on display in Mr. Noto’s private showroom, with the restoration remaining in excellent condition and nearly fresh throughout, reflecting the excellent presentation it has enjoyed within the collection. It has been extremely well-loved and that is evident in the superb finish of every nut and bolt.
