For 1942 Ford cosmetically revised its models, particularly the front grill, which now assumed an oblong rectangular shape crowned with a taller vertical center section. While all 1942 Fords rode the 114-inch-wheelbase chassis of the prior year, three trim levels continued to be offered: Special, Deluxe, and the range-leading Super Deluxe.

Super Deluxe models were adorned with special script under the driver’s side headlight, and came standard-equipped with a clock, door armrests, a steering wheel with a full-circle horn ring, and an instrument panel covered in Sequoia Grain wood. The flagship Super Deluxe was offered in six different body styles, of which the Tudor Sedan was the most popular.

While the early history of this restored Super Deluxe Tudor Sedan is unknown, by 2001 it was owned by Jerry Beauton of Bramford, Connecticut. As clarified by invoices on file, Mr. Beauton embarked on a refurbishment of the Ford that has resulted in a nicely presenting example. In addition to receiving an exterior refinish in maroon paint, the interior was reupholstered with tan cloth and complementary brown carpeting by the LeBaron Bonney Co. of Amesbury, Massachusetts, and the disc wheels were shod with whitewall tires.

Equipped with desirable options such as bumper guards, a radio, and clock, this Super Deluxe Tudor Sedan would make a strong addition to any collection of Fords, showcasing the height of the company’s prewar design and build attributes.
