Introduced in September 1940, the 1941 Cadillacs featured a significantly restyled front fascia that would remain in place for several years. The outgoing rounded V-type grille was revised into a more angular oblong component that became a characteristic Cadillac design cue of the 1940s. The one-piece hood was extended downwards at the sides and laterally at the front to reach the fenders.

The former dual-louver side trim was discarded in favor a longer single-louver piece on each side, and the former standalone teardrop headlamps were now faired into the fenders. Triple chrome spears now adorned front and rear fenders, and on the entry-level Series 60 cars the front fenders extended into the front doors. Only 4,101 examples of the Series 60 Special were sold in 1941, of which relatively few examples survive today in good condition.

While the early history of this Series 60 remains unknown, by the early 2000s it was in the possession of a dealer based in Ontario, Canada. The consignor purchased it in 2001 and he has since dutifully garaged and maintained the car as needed. Obviously restored at some earlier point, the car has developed a mild patina, but still exhibits great elegance. It is notably equipped with optional fender skirts, backup lights, foglamps, and a spotlight, while the interior features a heater. The sumptuous beige cloth upholstery is furthermore highlighted by four complementary throw pillows in the back seat.

Ideal for private enjoyment or exhibition at local events, this Series 60 Special is also a strong candidate for sympathetic restoration that might bring it to national show quality. In any event, it is a nicely presenting example of Cadillac’s entry level 1941 model that would complement any gathering of American luxury automobiles.
