For 1940, Cadillac replaced its entry-level Series 61 with the new Series 62, which rode a three-inch-longer wheelbase and shared bodies with the lower-priced LaSalle, then in its final year of production. This was the last year for running boards – deleting them was a no-cost option – and side-mounted spares – an extra-cost feature.

The Series 62 was initially offered as a five-passenger sedan, a coupe, and a convertible coupe. All are somewhat rare to find today, but are considered some of the most attractively styled Cadillacs of their era.

The coupe offered here is recorded on its build sheet as having been shipped to the famous Claude Nolan dealership in Jacksonville, Florida, on 23 February 1940. It was built without running boards and with a grille guard and disc wheel covers, and was finished in Marquette Gray with Vincennes Red wheels and gray herringbone cloth interior. Its original owner traded the car in at a dealership in Chicago in 1947, and it was exhibited in their showroom until 1974, then at a museum until 1992.

Today part of a well-known Classics collection on the East Coast, the Cadillac was repainted some years ago but is otherwise unrestored, and remains in fine, authentic overall condition, including the interior, carpeting, headliner, and trunk compartment. The steering box was recently rebuilt and a new rear main seal installed. All of the gauges work, as does the spotlight, and the car even retains its original tools. It is a splendid survivor worthy of the finest Classic Cadillac collection.
