110 bhp, 254 cu. in. flathead V-8 engine, heavy-duty four-speed manual transmission, tapered leaf-spring suspension, and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 134 in.
The heavy-duty F-6 offered here was built at the Ford factory in Chester, Pennsylvania, as a so-called “Conventional” model (meaning that it was not built on the extended chassis suited for school buses and large cargo trucks). It still has its original stake bed body, which is incredibly solid and well preserved, as is, indeed, the rest of the truck. Its original factory Meadow Green finish is worn down to primer in spots from polishing, but much of it still holds a good shine, and the panels fit well and close solidly. Similarly, the original vinyl interior is in good condition, with only a few spots of expected wear and tear from years of use. A correct AM radio is fitted, along with a Ford script heater. Much of the rest of the interior is spartan, including solid inner door panels and rubber mats on the floor, in keeping with the truck’s industrial nature.
The truck records fewer than 5,400 miles at the time of cataloguing, which, given its condition, may well be its actual mileage from new. While under the hood has been cleaned, it has not been detailed and has a healthy patina from age. Nonetheless, the engine still runs strongly, and the truck still moves and drives well, as exhibited when it was driven for the catalogue photography session. The engine is even still equipped with an original FoMoCo oil bath air cleaner, as well as correct wiring and hoses. With its “dually” rear axle, it is capable of handling quite a large payload, be it of hay or swap meet finds.
An ideal truck for driving around the farm, to the farmer’s market, or to the parts store, this big old hauler still has many, many thousands of enjoyable miles left to travel.
