The Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III was the last of the Big Healeys and has become the most sought-after model of this storied series of British sports cars. While earlier models had endeared themselves to enthusiasts with a take-no-prisoners attitude to performance, firmly established in international rallying, the 3000 Mark III added new refinement in interior appearance and convenience, yet sacrificed nothing in sports car character and capability.

Over the years, the Big Healey had progressed from being a sturdy, fun-to-drive two-seater with folding top and side-screens to a sophisticated convertible with wind-up windows. The Mark III, of which 17,712 were built from 1963 to 1967, featured further improvements, which included walnut-veneer dash panels, new seat patterning, standard 2+2 seating, and a fold-down rear seatback. The steering column was telescoping-adjustable. Engine modifications delivered increases of almost 20 brake horsepower, 13 foot-pounds of torque, and a further increase in ground clearance.

The 3000 Mark III offered here, finished in red with a black soft top, is especially desirable, having had only one owner who bought it new in 1967, the last year of series production, and has cherished it with meticulous care. Distance covered since new is an authentic 30,000 miles, for which it has always been garaged. Around 2008, the car underwent a comprehensive and photo-documented freshening, which included a complete body restoration. However, the original interior in black leather was left unrestored because of its excellent, barely patinated condition, including the original Becker radio. New chrome wire wheels have a fresh set of correct-type Michelin radials. Included are the original owner’s handbook, a Becker radio manual, a workshop manual, tools, a hammer, a jack, and a custom car cover.
