The classic two-seat Thunderbird entered its final year of production in 1957, and today, many enthusiasts consider these models to be the best of the series. Styling was freshened with an updated grille, along with a new rear-end treatment that featured a pair of small and lively fins, which were termed “high-canted fenders” by Ford. Both storage space and handling were considerably improved with a lengthened rear section, which allowed the spare tire to be relocated to the trunk. In addition, the 1957 Thunderbird cast a lower profile, with a return to 14-inch diameter wheels. No less than ten standard exterior colors were available, with many others available by special order.

In 1957, performance enthusiasts could choose from four naturally aspirated Thunderbird V-8 engines, beginning with a standard 292 cubic inch V-8 with 212 horsepower. Only 1,499 enthusiasts were fortunate enough to obtain the rare 270 horsepower, 312 cubic inch V-8 engine option, featuring a pair of 4000-Series Holley four-barrel carburetors. Fitted with these E-Code engines, such Thunderbirds have been commonly referred to as “E-Birds”.

The stunning E-Code Thunderbird offered here is a late-production example that has travelled minimal test miles since completion of its recent concours-quality, frame-off restoration, which utilized only restored original or new-old-stock components. Attractively finished in Sea Spray Green, the Thunderbird is complemented by a white hardtop, a new green tonneau cover, and beautifully restored brightwork. The interior is completely restored as well, and is trimmed in very attractive two-tone green upholstery. Other desirable features include full chrome wheel covers, and period correct wide whitewall tires. The Thunderbird is also equipped with a Town & Country AM radio as well as a heater and a defroster, ensuring a comfortable driving experience. In addition, the powerful 312 cubic inch V-8 engine and two-speed automatic transmission are completely rebuilt, beautifully detailed, and offer formidable performance.

The iconic 1955 to 1957 Thunderbird remains timeless, and is rightfully recognized as a Certified Milestone Car. This beautiful and powerful example is as captivating today as it was new, and considering its performance, rarity, and concours-quality restoration, its offering certainly represents a unique opportunity.
