The Lexus LFA is a two-seat “supercar” from Lexus and brings a distinctively different essence to the Lexus brand. It is the second model in the F marque line of performance vehicles from Lexus. The production Lexus LFA features a V-10 engine and a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) body. Carbon fiber materials account for 65-percent of the LFA's body composition by mass. The LFA went into production in late 2010, with a base price of $375,000.
During LFA production, each machine received an individually numbered plaque indicating the car’s order in the production run. Each LFA V-10 engine carries the signature of the specialist who assembled it. Every LFA is hand-built by a dedicated production team of engineers and specialists at Toyota's Motomatchi plant in Aichi, Japan. Only 20 copies were produced monthly by this group; production of the entire LFA run extended from December 2010 to December 2012, ending on December 14, 2012 with LFA number 500.
Lexus began taking orders for the LFA supercar on October 23, 2009. Customers were selectively chosen by Lexus in the second quarter of 2010. Each car had to be custom ordered to the customer's specifications.
The 4.8-liter, 552-hp V-10 engine is ferocious, yet melodious – having an engine note that is said to resemble a Formula One racecar. The powerplant has dual overhead cams, dry sump oiling system and is mated to a six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox (ASG) with paddle-shifters and will take the Lexus to a 202-mph top speed. This system incorporates four shift modes with seven shift speeds. The LFA combines fantastic styling, handling, agility and construction with an exquisite cockpit.
This particular Lexus LFA is number 069 and is finished in Mercury Metallic Silver, with only 400 miles registered on the odometer – virtually a new car. The list of equipment on the original window sticker comprises many elements that contribute greatly to the cars appeal – both in performance and convenience. These include forged, polished BBS wheels fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tires, speed-sensing automatic rear spoiler, limited-slip differential, Brembo-sourced aluminum brake calipers with multiple pistons and carbon ceramic material rotors. Safety features are plentiful and include numerous air-bags, direct tire pressure monitor and Xenon high-intensity headlamps.
The interior is highlighted by 10-way power seats have heaters along with leather and carbon fiber trim, LCD combination meter, hill assist control, audio system with DVD / CD changer and 12 –speaker Mark Levinson premium surround sound, hard-drive disc navigation system with remote touch controller for eDestination, Lexus Enform with destination assist, Lexus insider voice command, XM NavWeather, XM NavTraffic, XM Sports and Stocks, XM Satellite radio, Bluetooth technology, USB audio plug. A factory provided dust-cover with tote bag also accompanies the car, as do its books.
Factory options on this very special Lexus LFA are its BBS wheels being polished, speed-sensing rear wing with side spoilers, LFA badge delete (no cost), headlamp cleaner and silver door trim that also is applied to the dashboard and center console.
