In 1956, two new Ford V-8 engines were introduced: the 292 cubic-inch Thunderbird engine, as offered in this Sunliner, producing 200 horsepower, and the Thunderbird Special 312, producing 215 horsepower. Apart from engine changes, customers were sure to notice the “Lifeguard Design” promotion that incorporated a variety of safety features, such as dished steering wheels and breakaway rearview mirrors.

This restored Sunliner convertible is nicely detailed and is a high quality example, well suited to driving enjoyment. The paint is smooth, with no signs of orange peel or application defects, on a very straight body, free of scratches or dents. Color matched upholstery finished in vinyl is proper with white inserts. Power steering, power brakes, and an automatic transmission ensure a pleasant driving experience. Polished aluminum T-Bird valve covers are an attractive feature in the neatly detailed engine bay. This is a very attractive example of Ford’s popular full-sized convertible for 1956, presented in a lovely color combination.
