Wild themed vehicles such as the Barber Shop Car were popular at International Championship Auto Shows (ICAS), a series of annual hot rod, custom car, van and cycle events organized during the 1960s and 1970s. Joe Bailon, creator of the paint color “candy apple red”, established himself in the car customizing world at the 1951 Grand National Roadster Show with a custom Chevrolet before progressing to more outlandish projects such as this unusually-themed vehicle. After moving to Southern California in the late 1960s, Bailon started his own business customizing celebrity vehicles such as Zsa Zsa Gabor’s Rolls-Royce, Danny Thomas’ Continental and Dean Martin’s Cadillac.
