239-cid, 130-hp L-head V-8 engine, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle and live rear axle with transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 103-inches

Based on a Model A Ford chassis, “Mail Truck” was built by George Barris for Model Products Corporation, to accompany their 1/25-scale model promoting the Zip Code for the U.S. Postal Service. A USPS official requested the flathead engine to suggest the flat feet of veteran mail carriers. The engine has an Isky cam, Jahns pistons and Sharp heads, along with a Weiand dual intake manifold and Stromberg 97 carburetors.

The body is built of plastic-coated marine plywood, and finished in Zip Code graphics. Period Woodlites are used as headlamps, and the seats are the wire-formed type found in ice cream parlors. A classy period piece, the Mail Truck is a perennial favorite.
