The Buick Riviera redefined the “personal luxury” car market. Developed under the close guidance of Bill Mitchell and introduced for the 1963 model year, the Riviera remains universally recognized as a watershed of modern automotive design. The high performance Gran Sport model, released in 1965, was equipped with a 360 horsepower, 425 cubic inch V-8 engine, and advertised by Buick as “An iron fist in a velvet glove.”

This rare example displays a recent restoration that is reported as having over $100,000 spent in achieving a very high point car from an original Gran Sport platform. The Riviera is equipped with the correct dual-carburetor engine that is mated to its Super Turbine automatic transmission. The Buick also has a high performance 3.42:1 rear axle ratio with a Posi-traction differential. The dual exhaust is routed through large-diameter tubing to further enhance the performance profile generated by the Gran Sport.

The luxurious Deluxe interior is further highlighted by the bucket seats plus its distinctive and elegant center console. Additional features include factory air conditioning, walnut trim on the console and side panels, tilt steering wheel and radio with rear speaker, as well as power steering, brakes, windows and seats – all in an immaculate setting.

The undercarriage, engine bay and trunk all display a similar level of presentation. This fantastic black over black example has factory chrome Rally wheels and tastefully sized whitewall tires. This iconic Riviera is reported to be one of the finest and very sophisticated. Only 3,354 Riviera's were built with the Gran Sport option in 1965.
