Pierre Cardin, the Italian-born French fashion designer, made a signature foray into automobiles with interiors for American Motors’ Javelin in the 1970s, but his motoring piece de resistance is certainly the 1980-81 Evolution 1 conversion on the Cadillac Eldorado. Most of the modifications concerned the interior and were electronic-intensive, but he also revised the nose and tail with very good taste.
Electronic equipment includes a Sherwood stereo system with Altec-Lansing power bass, and a Sony Quasar VCR and five-inch television aimed at the rear seat. The television also operates from an antenna located in the headliner. There is a refrigerator, wet bar and umbrella holders in the doors. Exterior features include a sunroof, retractable foglights and a moisture sensor that closes the windows in case of rain.
