Some would say a classic bike doesn’t get any more classic than a well-sorted out Triumph Speed Twin and this restored example from the Baker collection gives evidence to that claim.
Credit for the milestone Triumph goes to legendary designer Edward Turner who produced what is considered his masterwork when in 1938 he debuted the much-acclaimed 500-cc Speed Twin. It was a smashing success in the marketplace and brought the Triumph concern out its financial doldrums literally setting it, and the vertical twin design, on top of the motorcycle world and as result copied by many of its competitors.
By 1946 Speed Twins, as seen here, benefited from telescopic front forks and by way of its compact, sporty dimensions and 90+-mph speeds ushered in a whole new concept of motorcycling.
Exhibiting a top drawer restoration, dressed in rich dark red livery, this example from the Baker Collection shows an odometer reading of only 454 miles.
