There is no doubt that the 1977 movie “Smokey and the Bandit” greatly increased the public’s awareness of the Pontiac Trans Am and that sales were significantly boosted. 27,274 Trans Ams were built in 1975, and 1978 saw over 117,000 bright Bandits hit the roads! For 1980, buyers had the option of the 4.9-liter Turbo V-8 as seen in “Smokey and the Bandit II.” This bright red example is fully equipped, and more importantly is an extremely well-preserved Pontiac with only 15,501 miles on the odometer. Options include T-tops, tilt steering column, power steering, four-wheel power disc brakes, power windows, AM/FM/cassette with power antenna, air conditioning and rare rear window louvers. The matching red cloth interior is exemplary with nary a flaw to be found. This Turbo Trans Am is undoubtedly one of the highest quality and most original examples to be found today. It is worthy of museum display or ready to garner top awards at any national event.
