500 bhp, 505 cu. in. pushrod overhead valve V-10 engine with T56 Tremec six-speed manual transmission, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel servo-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 98.8" - CarFax report available for review, While the Viper’s basic concept was drawn from the Izod show car of 1985, its development gathered steam in early 1988 during a casual meeting between Chrysler president Bob Lutz and design Chief Tom Gale. They envisioned a simple, high-performance “image car,” an idea that was also supported by Carroll Shelby, who was acting as a consultant for Chrysler at the time. The resulting Viper made its debut at the 1989 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and was an immediate hit, drawing unsolicited order requests and deposit cheques. With its incredible V-10 engine, stunning performance and race-inspired handling, the Viper legend was born, and its basic essence continued with careful development through the 2000s. A second generation was produced from 1996 through 2002, but the example offered here is the first of the acclaimed third-generation car. Completely restyled, the bodywork was modernized and remains fresh to this day. Engine output was increased to 500 bhp, largely due to a displacement boost to 505 cubic inches. This car has formed part of the vendor’s collection for many years, benefiting from dedicated care in a climate-controlled facility. It is strikingly finished in red with a black leather interior, with 9,748 miles indicated on the odometer. Please note that this vehicle is offered on a bill of sale only. It has been issued a non-repair certificate and therefore can not be titled and is not street legal. The specifics of the accident damage is not known by Auctions America.
