The 1960 Cadillacs were certainly more restrained than the wild 1959s. The marque’s trademark tailfins had reached their ultimate height while simultaneously becoming a defining symbol for the 1950s era of automotive excess. Under the guidance of GM’s new Chief of Styling, Bill Mitchell, sharp lines characterized the removal of the jet-like twin taillights and the less-pronounced flanks and cropped fins of the Dave Holls’ 1959 Cadillac design.

These subtle changes gave the car a whole new look. Tailfins remained; however, they were toned down a bit each successive year until they made their last appearance as classic points in 1964. This was the final year for the wraparound windshield on Cadillacs (except on the Fleetwood 75 Series).

Cadillac continued to boldly refer to itself as “The Standard of the World” and GM’s luxury division continued to outsell its competitors Lincoln and Imperial combined. Cadillac built a remarkable number of Series 62 Convertibles for 1960—14,000 in total—as this was not an inexpensive car when new, at $5,455 before options.

Finished in a handsome combination of Ebony Black over red and white Florentine leather with white convertible top and matching boot, this car has been restored to match the colors on the original trim tag and its odometer shows little more than 41,000 miles. It is equipped with power steering and brakes, power windows, six-way power seat, power convertible top, AM radio, and Autronic Eye. Underhood, you will find Cadillac’s powerful 304-horsepower, 389-cubic-inch V-8 and four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. Along with wide whitewall tires, inside the carpeted trunk, is the matching spare and jack.
