Following the success of his original Manx, the first production “dune buggy,” Bruce Meyers introduced several further variations, also based upon used Beetle drivetrains with fiberglass bodywork. Among his creations was the Manx SR, standing for “street roadster,” which borrowed some of its design ideas from the Porsche 914 and, in some ways, foretold the Lamborghini Countach in its dramatic wedge-shaped bodywork with “frogeye” headlamps. The SR was actually featured on the cover of the May 1970 issue of Car & Driver. The example offered here has been part of its current owner’s collection for many years, and with mechanical service would surely be entertaining for taking to the dunes.
