The 1969 Pontiac brochure, when talking of the Firebird 400, states that; “It doesn’t take much figuring to understand why we call this year’s 400 the Big Daddy of the Firebird aerie. 400-cid of V-8; 10.75:1 compression. Heavy-duty, fully synchronized transmission with Hurst shifter. Dual exhausts, Redline tires. You sure wouldn’t name a machine like that “mom.”

This Big Daddy is presented in Verdoro Green with matching interior and exhibits all of the calling cards of the option code 345 Firebird 400 that included the above mentioned items, plus chromed engine components, heavy-duty battery, variable-pitch cooling fan and special hood with non-Ram Air scoops. This fine example also has the four-speed Hurst shifter manual transmission, desirable hood tach, Rally II wheels, bucket seats, console, seatbelts, factory air conditioning, radio; power top, steering and brakes. In 1969, 11,649 Firebird convertibles were built – far fewer in this inspiring configuration.
