The Galaxie joined Ford’s lineup at mid-year 1959 for the first time, replacing the Fairlane as the top model in the full-size Ford series. Featuring a Thunderbird-style roofline, the model accounted for 27-percent of production in its first year. Since its release, the Ford Galaxy has been a classic. Its looks are distinctive and defined while under the hood Ford was installing some of the most powerful engines of the day. Ford built 15,169 Galaxie 500XL convertibles for the model year which included bucket seats and a center console as standard equipment.

The body tag on this lovely Galaxie XL convertible shows that it was assembled in Mahwah, New Jersey. During the assembly it was given a Z-code 390-cid, 330-hp V-8 engine that was fueled by a four-barrel carburetor. Backing this stout engine is a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission that is shifted by a console-mounted shifter. The ‘J’ in the body tag signifies that the paint was finished in Rangoon Red and matched by a red interior (TRM 85). The interior is tailored with bucket seats, red carpeting, red floor mats, attractive center console, electric clock and a pushbutton radio with rear speaker. The exterior is presented with excellent brightwork, chrome bumpers with bumper guards, fender skirts, dual sport mirrors, dual exhaust and spinner wire wheel covers.

The overall presentation is spectacular on this convertible. Every part of the car has received attention, from the highly detailed engine bay and interior, to the near spotless trunk compartment.
