In mid-model-year 1957, Ford introduced the first-ever mass-produced retractable hardtop convertible, the Fairlane 500 Skyliner. The brainchild of Ford engineer Gil Spears, this innovative design was originally intended for the 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II. However, the skyrocketing development costs of the Mark II prohibited the retractable hardtops application, with the idea picked up by the Ford division instead.

Many consider 1957, to be the best and most desirable year for the Ford Retractable. The Ford offered here is recognized by the International Ford Retractable Club (IFRC) as 1 of 39 factory original E-Code vehicles. The E-Code engine is a 312-cid, 270-hp V-8 engine fueled by dual 4v carburetors and linked to a fully automatic transmission.

This Skyliner features many original factory options that include: power windows, seats, steering and brakes. The outside of the car is finished in Flame Red and Colonial White paint which shows attractively. Other unique options found on this Ford are dual Unity Ford Spotlights, hockey stick moldings, front v-bar, full wheel covers, whitewall tires, Delta Wing exhaust tips and backup lights. The interior is tailored in colors matching the exterior; and the interior is also fitted with a Town and Country radio, electric clock, red floor mats, red carpet, sunvisors, padded dashboard and period-correct seatbelts.

This highly optioned Skyliner E-Code is presented with a 10 year old restoration that is still in show quality condition. In 2008, this car won the IFRC Showcase Gold Award (#189). This car is a show winning automobile that remains in great running order and ready for the next owner drive and enjoy.
