In 1941, World War II was raging in Europe, but back home in America, the Depression was just about over and new car sales were on the rise. With more than a million units sold, Chrysler Corporation was number two behind General Motors in industry rankings, and the attractively restyled offerings from Dodge had a great deal to do with that success.

Dodge advised the buying public that this was a modern design with streamlined beauty and breathtaking luxury. Every flowing line and eye-catching contour was styled to reduce air resistance and make travelling down the motorway as “effortless as the flight of a bird through the air.”

The 1941 Dodge Business Coupe offered here carries the “Luxury Liner” script on its rear bumper, denoting a top-line model. Reported as an almost entirely original car, it is believed that this Dodge still wears its original black paint with the exception of two repainted fenders. It remains a handsome vehicle and comes equipped with a number of period accessories including wide whitewall tires, painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and accessory “beauty” rings, front and rear bumper guards, dual windshield wipers, dual sideview mirrors and optional fender-mounted turn signal indicators. The car also features excellent chrome, and the wheels still display their original red pinstriping.

In addition, the passenger compartment is preserved in what appears to be largely original condition, featuring red gingham seat covers that are believed to have been dealer-installed when the car was new, along with new carpeting. While some paint is worn from the woodgrain dash finish, it is presented in unrestored condition with a complete set of gauges and an optional heater. The interior features overall Art Deco-inspired design elements and is welcoming to the fortunate travelers. As one of the popular Business Coupe models, the interior also features a pass-through from the passenger compartment to the expansive trunk area, and an original-appearing spare wheel and tire are mounted behind the driver’s seat.

The 217.8-cid, 91-hp inline six-cylinder engine, mated to a reliable Fluid Drive transmission, is tidy and remains period correct in presentation. While the engine bay reveals signs of road use and some surface rust; it also remains period correct in presentation. In addition, the car features a detailed undercarriage. A prior owner advises that the car was frequently used on tours and that it starts, drives and stops beautifully.

Overall, this well-maintained and largely unrestored car accurately captures the flavor of a bygone era, and stands ready to share more memories with its next owner.
