The 1938 Fords were distinctively designed with new sharply angled vee radiators that flowed over the crown of the fender catwalks and continued after a short break in similarly delicately finned hood side vents. Headlights were still located on the catwalks behind teardrop shaped streamlined glass covers and the dual vee windshields were raked slightly more. The windshield rake not only emulated the rake of the grille’s prow but also reduced the size of the roof on sedans which had gone to all steel construction in 1937. The smooth flowing design can best be seen on this sedan.

This car is exceedingly original with the exception of the updated hydraulic brakes and dual Smithy mufflers. In 1982 it had a frame-up restoration including a high quality professional black paint job. Most impressive is the interior. The original seat upholstery is entirely intact and still resides under a cover of clear plastic. The encapsulated material is remarkable to witness. All wood graining was re-applied during the restoration. All chrome, stainless and glass front front to back is in excellent condition. The original wiring harnesses were replaced with modern fabric covered type at the time of restoration for obvious safety reasons. Other updates included a new glove box liner, front floor mat and kick panels. Less than 150 miles ago this fabulous Ford underwent a complete “Tune-up” including new battery, plugs, plug wires, distributor, ignition coil, condenser, water pumps and fan belt. With little left to do, it should be ready for the AACA show field without much effort.
