This rare 1974 Pontiac Trans Am SD being offered is an unmolested original with less than 16,000 miles registered on the odometer, and this figure is reported to be correct by the owner. The car is in a condition that reflects its undemanding use by the original owner. Many respected experts consider the 1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty (SD) 455 to be the last true American muscle car. The Trans Am is powered by the rare 455-cid SD V-8 engine. The power output is listed as 290 to 310 horsepower, but most serious observers believe that these figures are quite conservative. All Super Duty engines were built by hand; they have a fortified engine block with four-bolt main bearings, forged pistons, free-flow round-port heads, Ram Air exhaust manifolds, 800-cfm Rochester Quadra jet four-barrel carburetor and a dry-sump oiling system. This represents the last year for true dual-exhausts and no federal emission controls. The powerful engine is connected to the desirable Muncie four-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter. The standard gear ratio for the Super Duty model is 3.42:1. Only 943 Super Duty Trans Ams were produced in this model year; 212 with the four-speed transmission, as seen in this car.

The Admiralty Blue color on this car was new for 1974 and one of three tones available. The Trans Am has a black interior with vinyl bucket seats that have cloth inserts. The SD-455 is equipped with power steering and brakes; AM radio, an in-console factory eight-track tape player, twin sport mirrors with driver’s side remote, an engine-turned dashboard and full instrumentation that includes a tachometer with integrated clock. Rally II wheels along with an array of spoilers, fender flares and shaker hood scoop provide an exciting visual platform for this uncommon muscle car.

Included in the sale is Pontiac valve covers that are blue in color, GM mud flaps and headlight “eyelids” - all having been on the car at some point of its life. There is also a new right front fender spat, Pontiac service manual and a storage case of eight-track tapes.

This is a one owner car, and in fact, the original owner can confirm a long and personal history of his cherished Trans-Am. As an adolescent in Woodville, Wisconsin, a small town populated no more than 500 people; he spent his days as boy changing oil for his local dealer Jacobson, Pontiac. He had spent over two years working and saving his money so when he was 16 he could buy the car of his dreams. Of course, the car was still out of reach for it had a hefty price tag of $5,567.75, but the owner cut him a huge break of over $1000 for all his hard work and effort. However, when he brought the car home, his father displeased that he spent all of his life-savings locked the car in storage till he was 18. After a long wait to finally get his Trans-am, he developed a deeper appreciation for his car. He only took it out on nice days, and spent extra care loving and cherishing this car, and it clearly shows. This car is 100% original, has fewer than 16,000 miles on this car, still has its original tires/factory equipment, and could possibly be the nicest all original/single owner Super Duty 455 Trans Am in existence.
