The Series 2 Aston Martin Lagonda saloon was launched at the 1976 London Motorshow, with deliveries beginning in 1979. Whereas the Series 1 variant was essential a four-door DBS V8, the Series 2 was clean sheet design by William Towns, who employed the ‘folded paper’ design language that was popular in the 1970s and which had underpinned the shapes of the DMC DeLorean, Lotus Espirit and the Lamborghini Countach. Only the dependable Tadek Marek 5.3-litre V-8 engine was carried over. The interior too was entirely new, featuring traditional swathes of soft leather alongside very avant-garde and advanced instrumentation, providing a much more futuristic experience for both driver and passengers when compared to its competitors.
This example retains its factory specification of Cannock Black paintwork, black interior and black carpeting. Its build card shows that it was delivered to its first owner in Paris in December 1982. Its current, a passionate Aston Martin enthusiast, owner has enjoyed the car for ten years and reports that everything on the car is in working condition, with the electronics benefitting from a thorough recent overhaul. A modern stereo system with a rear-view camera has also been fitted.
In the last eight years, the current owner has carried out a lot of service work to make the car usable on a daily basis. Eric Schulte, a noted Lagonda specialist near Frankfurt, has fitted new brakes, overhauled the suspension, upgraded the air conditioning, serviced the Weber carburetors, upgraded the water pump and radiator, and his service work totals to over €15,000. It is fitted with the correct Avon whitewall tyres and has been driven and enjoyed regularly on special occasions.
Rare, certain to turn heads and fast becoming a must-have for Aston Martin collections.
