RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island sale offered a diverse selection of over 100 vehicles. Ranging from pre-war classics, blue-chip sports cars, modern supercars, and future collectibles. The oceanfront lawn of the Ritz-Carlton hotel saw tremendous attendance throughout both Thursday and Friday preview days, and led to a standing-room only crowd during the weekend’s sale. Bidders from 28 countries from around the world contended for the high bid on their desired lot, 20 percent of which were first time RM Sotheby’s clientele. 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB by Scaglietti sold for $2,205,000

After a recent and thorough restoration by Motion Products, Chassis 06899 retains its original matching-numbers engine and has been brought back to its original finish in Argento Silver metallic over Nero leather seats with grey cloth inserts. Shortly after completion, the 275 GTB earned the Platinum Award at the XXVII Cavallino Classic held at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.

1966 Shelby Cobra sold for $1,792,500

Chassis no. CSX 3359, noted by The Shelby American Automobile Club World Registry, is documented to be the second-to-last 427 Cobra ever produced. With less than 1,900 miles, chassis CSX 3359 remains incredibly authentic. Restored by Mike McClusky—a well-known Cobra expert—this example had the entire drivetrain restored to factory specifications, as well as the body shell being completely stripped, metal finished, and repainted the original Monza Red.

Duesenberg Model J “Sweep Panel” Dual-Cowl Phaeton sold for $1,650,000

Truly one-of-a-kind, chassis no. 2236 was the first and only “Sweep Tail” Dual-Cowl Phaeton ever produced on a long wheelbase chassis. A complete concours-quality restoration has been performed by the renowned Fran Roxas, known to have restored more Duesenbergs than anyone and with exceeding attention to detail. With outstanding provenance and over 70 years of history evidenced by its ACD Club Category One Certification, this Duesenberg Model J remains an exceptional and unique example of the marque.

2010 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Sang Noir sold for $1,500,000

Of only 300 Veyron Coupes ever produced, the Sang Noir is one of Bugatti’s special edition examples. Finished in two-tone black paint with exposed carbon fiber, and a polished horseshoe grille with polished wheels—a nod to the polished grille and black/polished wheels of the Type 57 Atlantic. This example is unique as of the 12 Sang Noir examples built, this is the only one to be trimmed in bright red leather as opposed to the orange normally featured.

2015 McLaren P1 sold for $1,490,000

McLaren’s hybrid supercar boast’s staggering performance courtesy of the manufacturer’s relentless pursuit to make the vehicle as light as possible, while active aerodynamics minimize drag and produce 600kg of downforce at 160 mph. Utilizing its electric motors to supplement gaps in power where a conventional engine would fail to produce peak performance. The owner of this example competed in the standing-mile competition at the John F Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida—where it would reach 205.296 mph at the one-mile mark from a standing start.

1926 Hispano-Suiza H6B Cabriolet Le Dandy by Chapron sold for $1,352,500

Painstakingly restored by Steve Babinsky, widely regarded as one of the foremost restorers in the world. Chassis 11528 has won a number of high-profile concours d’elegance, such as Meadow Brook, the Elegance at Hershey, Hilton Head, and, most significantly, Best in Class at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours.

1934 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Convertible Sedan by Dietrich sold for $1,325,000

Chassis number 1108-23 is one of the most prestigious and desirable of all Dietrich Individual Customs, especially for this model year, as it was the only open four-door coachwork body style offered by the coachbuilder. A fresh restoration by the specialists at Stone Barn Automobile Restoration, and finished to an extremely high level of fit and finish. Presented at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it was judged as “Without Flaw.”

2015 Porsche 918 Spyder sold for $1,187,500

The 268th of fewer than 300 918s delivered in the United States, this example of Porsche’s hybrid supercar was tastefully ordered in Dark Blue Metallic with black leather featuring Acid Green highlights. The owner also specified premium options such as the Burmester audio system, visible carbon fiber interior trim package, front axle lift, Acid Green seat belts and wheels finished in Platinum Silver. In total, this example has seen less than 1,300 miles since delivery and will be highly desirable among modern supercars for years to come.

1992 Ferrari F40 sold for $1,017,000

A truly iconic 90’s supercar and a landmark in Ferrari’s history. Chassis 91464 was delivered new in Switzerland, and remained in Switzerland and Germany before returning to Italy for its 30,000 km service by Michelotto Giuliano & Co in Pavoda. With only 26,800 km (16,700 miles), this European-specification F40 will remain desirable for decades to come as one of Ferrari’s most significant super cars.

2017 Ferrari F12tdf sold for $967,500

Ferrari’s ultimate front-engine supercar was only offered exclusively to 799 clients who were hand picked by Ferrari based on marque loyalty and ownership history. Finished by Ferrari’s Tailor-Made department, this example is finished in Blu Tour de France with a grey and Nero Stellato stripe, and trimmed in Cucio leather with Blu Scuro alcantara detailing. Driven less than 350 miles since new, this example is presented as brand new and will continue to be sought-after by those who were not offered the opportunity to purchase one new.
