From the smooth, aerodynamic styling of the mid 1940s to flashy, aerospace influenced designs, the post war era automobile styling still resonates with the automotive public to this day.

The early post-war automobile incorporated cues from the Streamline Moderne form of Art Deco styling, incorporating streamlined designs, with an emphasis on long aerodynamic curves and lines and often with minimal decoration. They were smooth, sleek, and elegant, and built on the aesthetic that had begun to emerge before the war. In stark contrast, the vehicles of the mid-1950s began to grow longer and lower, and with inspiration taken from planes, rockets, and futuristic concepts taken from the aerospace industry. They began to sprout styling features such as tailfins, afterburner-styled tail lights, and pointed nose cones which bore semblance to those found on fighter planes. Chrome plated accents became commonplace, with the notion that more the chrome, the better.

RM Auctions' Auburn spring sale will be held over the course of four days at the historic Auburn Auction Park in Indiana with an extensive collection of automotive memorabilia and classic automobiles.
