  • Factory “Z-Code” example; Features a 300-horsepower, 390-cubic inch V-8

300 bhp, 390 cu. in. V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor, four-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension with unequal length A-arms and coil springs, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 119 in.

While many collector cars are often “dressed up” to appear more desirable, this special Galaxie Sunliner was delivered new to the Memphis area with all of the most appealing options. It was factory-built with the powerful “Z-Code” 390 engine, which was rated at 300 horsepower and mated to a four-speed manual floor-shift transmission. What makes it even more special is its correct Rangoon Red paint and matching red bench seat interior. Factory options on the car also include a pushbutton AM radio, a power top, and dual mirrors. It was likely ordered with performance and visual appeal in mind, as it has no power steering or power brakes.

Following a recent repaint, the paint and body have been well kept and in show condition. The most recent updates include a new exhaust and clutch. Under the hood, the engine bay is largely stock in appearance, with properly finished components, while the chassis was undercoated as part of the preservation process. Not only does this example have rare and desirable options, but it has also been updated with 17-inch American Racing alloy wheels and radial tires, for a modern stance and better drivability.
