When the Jaguar XK 120 was launched in 1948, it caused a sensation. Jaguar’s first post-war sports car was beautiful, relatively affordable and staggeringly fast. Demand soon outstripped the initial limited production plan, and Jaguar switched to steel bodies as production numbers increased. The car’s 3,442-cc engine would remain a staple of Jaguar engine design even through to the 1980s.

This car, chassis S674489, was delivered in left-hand-drive configuration to the U.S. via Jaguar’s New York distributor, Charles Hornberg, in the highly attractive colour scheme of Lavender Grey over red.

By the 1990s the car had returned to Europe and was fully restored in Sweden; at this time the current colour combination of light metallic blue over dark red leather was applied. The car has been well restored to fast road specification with an original XK 140 high-compression C-Type cylinder head, five-speed gearbox and aero screens. Importantly, this XK 120 retains its matching engine block and body. Following the restoration, this XK 120 featured in a magazine article in the Swedish classic motoring magazine Nostalgia whilst in the ownership of Mr Helenius.

The XK 120 remains a superb sports car to this day and, more importantly, highly usable and eligible in a whole host of interesting events, this example being no exception to this and very well prepared.

Quand la Jaguar XK120 a été lancée en 1948, elle a fait sensation. Cette première Jaguar de sport d'après-guerre était une voiture magnifique, relativement abordable et extrêmement rapide. La demande n'a pas tardé à dépasser le planning de production initial et, pour y faire face, Jaguar a décidé de passer à une carrosserie en acier. Par ailleurs, le moteur 3 442 cm3 de la voiture allait représenter la base de tous ceux conçus par la marque jusqu'aux années 1980.

La voiture présentée ici, avec son numéro de châssis S674489, a été livrée neuve aux États-Unis via Charles Hornberg, le distributeur Jaguar de New York. Elle était en conduite à gauche et affichait la couleur très séduisante de "Lavender Grey", avec intérieur rouge.

Dans les années 1990, cette Jaguar XK 120 est revenue en Europe et a été complètement restaurée en Suède ; à cette époque, la carrosserie a été repeinte dans une teinte bleu clair métallisé, avec du cuir rouge foncé pour l'intérieur. La voiture a été bien restaurée et a bénéficié de spécifications sportives, avec une authentique culasse XK140 haute compression Type C, une boîte cinq rapports et deux petits saute-vent. Il est important de noter que cette XK 120 a gardé son bloc-moteur et sa carrosserie d'origine. A la suite de la remise en état, elle est apparue dans un article publié dans le magazine suédois de voitures anciennes Nostalgia, à l'époque où elle appartenait à M. Helenius.

La Jaguar XK 120 est encore aujourd'hui une superbe voiture de sport et, surtout, elle est éligible dans une grand quantité d'évènements intéressants et reste très facile à utiliser. Cet exemplaire très bien préparé ne fait pas exception.
