The early 1970s are viewed by many as delivering the best and most exciting Porsche 911s that the company had produced to date. Porsche had lengthened the 911’s wheelbase by 57 millimeters to 2,268 millimeters, resulting in improved handling and more interior space. It also enlarged the rather peaky original 2.0-liter, single overhead-cam engine to 2.2-liters by increasing the cylinder bore to 84 millimeters, which was the first in a series of regular 200 cubic centimeter displacement increases. There were also larger intake and exhaust valves, oil squirters were added in the crankcase to better cool the pistons, and a larger 225 millimeter clutch package was also added to handle the increased horsepower and torque. For the 1971 model year, three-speed windscreen wipers were added and the fuel pump was relocated to the front of the car. Fuchs aluminum alloy wheels were standard equipment on the E.

This 911E retains most of its factory original paintwork and is in relatively great shape considering its age and usage. When paint metered it had consistent readings of 2.5 where the paint had thinned in some areas where it had been most exposed to a 3.5 - 4.5 throughout the rest of the car. The only exception was the hood, which had been repainted early in its life. Nonetheless, the paint on the hood has aged enough where it still has that original appearance, and does not change the theme and consistency of the car's originality. Overall, the Porsche has a nice patina to it, having several areas with some small rock chips as expected from long term usage, and a few spots where the paint is lightly thinning and starting to wear through its original coat. However, this shouldn't be viewed a negative. It is really a true testament to the car's originality, showing its honesty, and is proudly worn like a badge of honor.

The chassis, engine, transmission and color code are all reported as correct and numbers matching per the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The engine number, internal number, transmission number and chassis number stampings all have been inspected and appear correct. The same goes for all the plates including the color code plate, the data plate, and the U.S. windshield VIN plate, which all appear correct and to have never been removed from the car.

The engine has undergone a complete mechanical overhaul by Porsche marque specialist Chuck Croteau of Redline Service in Tuscon, Arizona. Over $21,000 has been invested into the engine and the owner has all receipts documenting the restoration. The engine was restored from the crankshaft on up, and includes a cam chain tensioner update and a full mechanical fuel injection (MFI) system rebuild and sorting out of all systems. In fact, the case was split and x-rayed to prove up quality, and there are only 45 miles on a total rebuild. When you crawl underneath the car, it is evident that this car was professionally done. The Sanden Corp. air conditioning compressor is currently not hooked up but is present.

The car is further accredited as being a one owner car from new with the all original pink slip California title from the new purchase in 1972 with the same name as the 2015 registration showing same owner for 42 years, and in Southern California all its life, remaining “dry as a bone.” The original Sepia Brown Paint has a wonderful patina, and the original Tan interior is stated to be “in great shape” with its original carpets. Along with having “no rust – ever,” the Porsche carries its original trunk compartment liner, original spare wheel, plus the original owner’s manual, tools and jack. This is a California “blue plate” Porsche that is definitely worthy of serious consideration.
