  • One of the most significant postwar Rolls-Royce models
  • Early-production ‘small-bore, small-boot’ example
  • Solid, very original condition
  • Part of the Mitosinka Collection for many years
  • Accompanied by build and ownership records from the Rolls-Royce Foundation

This handsome Silver Dawn is a relatively early "small-bore, small-boot" example, a reference to its early engine (shared with the Bentley Mark VI) and more attractive smaller trunk area. It was ordered by the Belgian dealers, Etablissments Andre Pisart of Brussels, as a left-hand-drive model with speedometer in kph and front seats custom-adjusted for fit, including a bottom cushion lowered by one inch and a back cushion moved back by the same amount, apparently to suit a taller driver. The car was finished in Black with a single gold pinstripe and tan leather interior, piped in tan. Its original build documents, copies of which are on file, note the customer as "Crosly-Film," operators of several cinemas in Brussels.

Dennis Mitosinka acquired the Silver Dawn from longtime owner Dr. Robert M. Hidey of Palos Verdes, California. While it was the recipient of a repaint in an unusual putty hue many years ago, the work was obviously completed to a very high standard, and the paint -- while older and marked in many areas -- still holds a good, attractive shine. The interior is in good original condition, with the upholstery having a very charming and attractive patina, and the woodwork still being in good, solid shape throughout. Correct new wool carpeting was installed recently. A Clasonic radio is fitted, and a sliding sunroof provides for open-air touring. Further, the car retains its original engine.

Accompanying are the largely complete original hand tool set, housed under the dashboard; flashlight; partial road tools, as well as an original owner’s manual inscribed with Mr. Hidey’s name. At the time of cataloguing, the car had recorded 31,132 miles.

This is a charming Silver Dawn, from unusually long-term ownership, perfect for chauffeuring the family in elegance or as the best possible beginning for a restoration.
