The XK 120 was the first entirely new car produced by Jaguar following World War II. It was only the second sports car ever produced by the company and the first to feature Jaguar’s own in-house designed engine. The XK 120 made its debut at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1948, causing nothing short of a sensation in the automotive world. Originally conceived as a low-volume car rather than a serious production vehicle, it was destined to become a formidable offering and one of the most celebrated sports cars of all time.

The XK engine was a marvel of modern efficiency, offering smooth power and great flexibility throughout the driving range. The six-cylinder, 3.4-liter twin-cam unit produced 160 horsepower while breathing through twin SU carburetors. An SE model became available for 1951, which included an improved 3.4-liter motor with higher-lift camshafts, lightened flywheel, stiffer rear springs, wire wheels, and dual exhaust system. SE versions offered 180 horsepower, a 20-horsepower increase over the standard model.

A total of 12,055 XK 120s were produced from 1948–1954, including 7,374 steel-bodied roadsters. As evidenced by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust production record trace certificate, chassis number S 674973 is confirmed as a factory XK 120 SE that was completed 11 February 1954 and dispatched to Hoffman Motors in Manhattan, New York on 22 February 1954. It retains its numbers-matching cylinder head and engine block. Though originally specified in Birch Grey over red leather with a Gunmetal soft top, the car is now beautifully presented in a deep red over biscuit leather with a matching tan canvas top and side curtains. It is nicely detailed, albeit with some minor nicks and wear, but overall, is in excellent condition. Chrome is bright, paintwork is well-done and shut lines are consistent and even.

Headlights have been upgraded to halogen units and blackwall tires on chromed wire wheels enhance the exterior appearance, and seat belts have been fitted. The chassis, undercarriage and underhood appearance are neat and tidy, showing pride of ownership while in the care of the consignor. It is accompanied by side curtains, a tool roll, and knock-off hammer, with a spare wheel stowed in the trunk.

Whether your preference is in showing or driving, this is one XK 120 that will not disappoint its new owner.
